Best Michigan Road Trips: The Great Lakes State

Michigan Road Trips
Case in point: Makinaw

Now that the warm spring weather is finally here, everyone at Slingerland CDJR is itching to take a trip with the windows down. If you’re ready to hit the road, too, check out one of these great Michigan road trips.

The Border

If you have a week to spare and love lighthouses, water, and small towns, then this is the trip for you. A trip around the border of Michigan will allow you to stop in places like Ludington State Park and Sturgeon Point Lighthouse. Stay in little bed and breakfasts along the way, or go car camping in your Chevrolet or Jeep. Be sure to spend a night in Mackinac to get in some seriously unbeatable stargazing.

Small Towns

If you want to focus only on the small towns, then you can alter the above trip to head up the west coast, but back down I-75. Stop off at places like Saugatuck, East Tawas, and Frankenmuth where you can take a stroll through a Bavarian-inspired downtown and sip on a cold brew.

Ghost Towns

Make things a little creepier by centering your road trip around Michigan ghost towns. This trip will take you to the Upper Peninsula, an area worth exploring unto itself. Visit places like Mandan, which was founded in 1864, the Quincy Mine Smelter, and Hubbell. Get out the maps and pack up the car—it’s time to hit the road!
